Uniform

All Gildredge House students are expected to adhere to the Gildredge House Uniform Policies and Uniform Lists.

Students should take pride in their appearance. We expect all our students to be smartly and sensibly dressed with clothing as designated on the relevant Gildredge House Uniform List. This should be fully and strictly adhered to.

Students should have appropriate outdoor clothing i.e. suitable coat every day. All students must be in full school uniform from the first day of term.

PE kit: Primary phase students

Students in the Primary phase are permitted to wear their PE kit to school on days where they have PE, but this must align with our Uniform Policy. Please refer to the Uniform Policy below for further details.

Here is a reminder of some of our expectations of Secondary phase students:

PE kit

As of 21st February 2022, students in the Secondary phase are no longer permitted to wear PE kit to school on days where they have PE. Therefore, students must wear school uniform to school every day of the week and bring PE kit into school ready to change for PE lessons. They are then expected to change back into their school uniform after their PE lesson. We have the capacity within our changing facilities to support this.

Layers

Wearing a coat, warm hat and gloves is often essential whilst travelling to and from school during the winter months and at breaktimes at school. Whilst we encourage these items, it has been noted that many students have been wearing hoodies either under or over their blazers. If students require an extra layer, our school jumper, under-layers or an overcoat are the expected methods of keeping warm. Students who are seen wearing a hoodie will have it confiscated until the end of the school day. To support the school, please prevent your son / daughter from taking a hoodie to school, this also includes the days they have PE.

School shoes

This item must be smart and formal. As you will know, many shoe shops place trainer type footwear into the ‘School’ section throughout stores and online. If you are questioning whether it is a shoe or trainer, do not purchase the item. In addition, boots, fabric/canvas shoes or trainer style shoes are not permitted, including branded sports brands and any other shoe/trainer looking footwear.

Hair

Hair longer than shoulder length must be tied back. Short hair must be smart, off the face, and off the collar. Any enhancements to hair must be discreet and natural-looking. Dramatic cuts or colours may result in a student being sent home. Hair accessories should be discreet.

School blazers

The school blazer must be worn at all times, including the journey to and from school. During the summer months, this may be slightly relaxed.

Blouses and/or shirts

This item is white and must be tucked in at all times

Jewellery

Any form of jewellery is not permitted except for one pair of small (no larger than 5mm in diameter) plain, silver, gold or pearl ear studs worn centrally in the ear lobe. No other body piercings are permitted.

Cosmetics

Nail varnish and/or false nails/eyelashes must not be worn by students.

Any personal exceptions to the above rules must be requested and authorised by the student’s Head of Year. Items that are not school uniform will be taken and returned at the end of the day. As a parent, we know you will want to be informed if your son / daughter is not following the school rules and, therefore, you will also receive a letter explaining the concern. Students who are not wearing the correct uniform will be lent an item to wear for the day to ensure they can continue learning in lessons. Sixth Form students may be asked to return home to change.

Sixth Form

Sixth Form students are expected to wear smart / casual attire at Gildredge House. Please refer to the Sixth Form Uniform Policy below for further details. Students who are not wearing the correct uniform may be asked to return home to change.
