Prospectus

We offer a range of A Level courses as well as BTECs that will prepare students for a wide variety of destinations, from Oxford, Cambridge and Russell Group Universities, to apprenticeships and local employment. We expect students to meet academic challenges, discover their passions, develop confidence, contribute positively to society, be resilient and become independent thinkers prepared for successful and fulfilling lives.

We are an inclusive Sixth Form but also an academic one. Students can select to study three or four A Levels, BTECs or a combination of both. Students should choose a combination of subjects that enable them to develop both their aptitudes, skills and interests but that also facilitate their ambitions for further study or work after Sixth Form.

What’s the difference between BTECs and A levels?

Broadly speaking, BTEC qualifications start to prepare students for a specific career, whereas A Levels aim to give students a solid academic grounding in a given subject.

BTECs are vocational qualifications and they are available at different levels. Depending on if a student plans to take other qualifications alongside a BTEC, they could choose one of the following common options:

  • BTEC Extended Certificate: equivalent to one A Level.
  • BTEC National Diploma: equivalent to two A Levels.
  • BTEC Extended Diploma: equivalent to three A Levels.

The Sixth Form at Gildredge House has a range of BTECs on offer for 2022, including Business, Music Performance, and Travel and Tourism.
