I know this is not the end of Year 11 you had envisaged, but take this opportunity to start of the next chapter in your education. You may not be able to sit your GCSEs this summer, but you will still be sitting your BTEC and A Level exams in the summer of 2023! With this in mind, there is no time like the present to start preparing for these.
Induction Day – Tuesday 6th July 2021
In order to support your transition to Sixth Form, we would love you to come along to our Virtual Year 12 Induction Day on Tuesday 6th July 2021.
The purpose of the day is to meet other students who will be joining Gildredge House Sixth Form in September, to meet teachers of subjects you have chosen and to have a chance to ask them questions about the A Levels and BTECS. We hope that it will be a chance to clear up any worries you may have about the subjects, to familiarise yourself with the Sixth Form and also to get to know others who will be coming here. This should be a nice informal way to chat with staff before you start in September. We will also take some time to explain the enrolment process so you know what to expect.
If you would like to join us on the Year 12 Induction Day, please use the link below to register by Friday 25th June.
Courses at A Level and BTEC are significantly different to GCSE and provide exciting opportunities for independent learning.
To support our application process, we have put together a Transition Programme which aims to prepare you for your time with us. Completion of these tasks will be used to assess your suitability to study with us from September. Our Sixth Form staff have designed tasks and activities to provide you with an insight into life in the Sixth Form. It is vital that you choose courses that interest you, courses that enable you to progress onto your chosen post-18 pathway, and courses where you will want to work independently and challenge yourself to improve your own understanding. The jump from Year 11 to Year 12 is a big one. Whilst September may seem a long way off, it is important that you are fully prepared for your A Level studies in order that you can start as you mean to go on.
These tasks are important because they:
- provide an introduction to key ideas within the course.
- help to bridge the gap between GSCE and A Level/BTEC.
- encourage students to think like an A-level/BTEC student
- demonstrate a commitment to study and subject teachers will expect that tasks are completed to a high standard.

We have students joining us from a wide variety of schools, and as you can imagine, there is a great deal to do in enrolling students and making sure you all feel comfortable with your transition to Sixth Form.
