Welcome to Year 7 at Gildredge House
This page should have all the information you need to help you prepare to join Gildredge House in September. Year 7 transition is extremely important to us and, with many feeder schools and our own Year 6 classes, it is vital that we create a smooth transition that ensures that all students feel confident and safe throughout. With the current climate, our usual transition cannot take place and, therefore, we have been working hard to create a virtual transition that will be just as thorough.
We endeavour to contact all of our feeder schools and work closely with your Primary teachers and support staff who will give us an overview of your strengths and the areas where you may need support and this will guide us in the transition process.
Moving to Secondary school is a very exciting time, but some students may find it difficult to become more independent and organised. We also understand that many students and their parents may have worries and queries. With this in mind, we have created a Year 7 Information Handbook [PDF], which will help to prepare you and hopefully answer your questions. If you have any other queries, please refer to the FAQ section at the back of the Year 7 Information Handbook [PDF] where you might find the answers to your questions. If you still have queries, please contact Miss C McCart, Head of Year 7, via email.
Below, you will find separate sections linked to Year 7 transition. Each section has key documents that you will need during the transition process, including all the documents that have been emailed to you previously.
As you are aware, our usual Year 7 Transition Days cannot take place this year. Instead, we have created a virtual transition that will help you get become familiar with Gildredge House and key members of staff so that you feel comfortable and confident in September. You will have received a ‘This is Me!’ Worksheet [PDF] via email. Please complete this, giving as much detail as possible. The information you provide will help us get to know you and will also be shared with your Form Tutor.
We have also put together a Year 7 Transition Booklet [PDF] to help you begin to think about what Secondary school might be like, and what you would like to achieve while you are at Gildredge House.
Learning to Support Transition
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many students have not been at school for a long time and, although you have all been working hard at home with your parents, it is understandable that you might find it hard when you return to school.
To help support the transition from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3, the Heads of Department have provided some topics and activities to help you become familiar with work in Key Stage 3. These can be found in the Learning For Transition Booklet [PDF]. Please complete as much as you can and bring it with you when you come to school in September to show your Subject Teachers what you have learnt.
We would like also you to write a Letter to your Form Tutor [PDF] to introduce yourself. You can use the template we have provided or you can take some of the ideas from the template if you would prefer. Please bring your letter with you to school on the first day of term.
We have five Houses at Gildredge House: Bader, Carter, Hopkins, Johnston, and Ravilious. If you have a sibling at the school, we will try and arrange for you to be in the same House but this is not guaranteed. You will have the opportunity to represent your House by taking part in Inter-House competitions throughout the year and in our annual Sports Day in the Summer Term.
You will see your Form Tutor every morning and they will be your first point of contact. We will inform all students of their Tutor Group and House as soon as possible and no later than the beginning of July. Please do not order your school tie until you have received this information as there is no guarantee that you will be in the same House as your sibling or, for students already at Gildredge House, the same House as you were in Year 6.
If you need help with printing any of the documents contained within this page, please contact the Secondary School Office via email
We hope you have a wonderful summer and we cannot wait to meet you in September!
