Years 4 to 6

The Middle School consists of five year groups: Year 4, Year 5, Year 6, Year 7 and Year 8.

We will provide a robust academic education with a strong core of English, Mathematics and Science learning. We follow the Cambridge Primary Curriculum, but as a free school we have the flexibility to tailor the curriculum to meet the requirements of our children.

Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 will be based in their own classrooms for the core subjects. They will, however, continue to enjoy specialist teaching of senior staff, as they have done in the Lower School for subjects such as French, Music, Drama and Sport, with the addition of further subjects such as German, Spanish, Latin, Art and Design and Food Technology.

As an all-through school, our younger students benefit from regular access to the school’s excellent facilities in Science, Sport and the Performing Arts. The Heads of Department in the secondary school have strong links with the teachers in the primary years, in order to build a cohesive and meaningful curriculum.

Our children are encouraged to be independent and inquisitive learners and undertake an annual independent learning project that allows them to develop many important skills such as research, organisation, collaboration, co-operation and working to a deadline. All experiences during this stage of their education will prove invaluable as the boys and girls progress into the Middle School and beyond.

We will organise a varied and exciting extra-curricular programme, which for some students may well take them into an optional extended day. There will be a plethora of clubs on offer so whatever your child's interest, there will be a club to suit them. We also organise an external visit at least once per year for each year group and annually there will be a residential activity weekend for Years 4, 5 and 6.

All children will participate in school productions and there will be several music concerts throughout the year for children to showcase their hard work and talent.

Numerous fixtures will allow our students to flourish in the sporting arena, as well as building important and team and leadership skills for the future.
