Years 12 to 13 (Sixth Form)

Study at Gildredge House Sixth Form

Late applications still welcome!

Why study in our Sixth Form?

We welcomed our first students into Year 12 from September 2015 and, as of September 2016, now have Sixth Form students in both Years 12 and 13.

We have recently been judged Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and we are passionately committed to delivering and maintaining a first-rate educational experience for everyone who comes through our doors.

The school has accommodation and facilities ideally equipped for Sixth Form teaching and, most importantly, our ambitious recruitment programme has brought us yet more teachers who are qualified to teach to A Level to strengthen our already excellent team.

Altogether, we believe we have a great deal to offer to the post-16 education context in Eastbourne.

Our Sixth Form students have the benefit of a stand-alone wing, which we have renamed Temple Grove after the Preparatory School which occupied the site 100 years ago. The 1870s building with its striking Victorian frontage and many original features is perfect for Sixth Form accommodation, offering:

  • spacious seminar-style teaching rooms for a typical group size of 14 students (and none larger than 20)
  • tutorial bases for House groups of 12 students
  • student common rooms on two levels
  • kitchen facilities
  • extensive library and computer facilities dedicated to Sixth Form use in the Devonshire wing

Our Sixth Formers also take advantage of the subject-specific facilities throughout the rest of the site.

Our Sixth Form facilities are enhanced by a fast and accessible computer network, WiFi throughout the building and various hardware including laptops, tablets and digital screens.

Students can also take advantage of high quality sports facilities within easy walking distance, such as the astro-turf at The Saffrons, swimming at the University of Brighton and Tennis in the Park.

How to apply

Applicants are welcome to apply for entry in September 2017. Late applications welcome. You should apply using the UCAS Progress online application system.

Applying for September 2017

Step One

Before you can apply, you need to select the courses that you want to study. The full list can be found in our Gildredge House Sixth Form Prospectus 2017 (PDF) or by searching for our courses on UCAS Progress. We offer additional teaching hours in each subject and ask students to normally apply for 3 A Levels, which are studied alongside our Aspire programme of Sport, community time, careers advice and challenge (Global Perspectives Pre-U). It is, however, also possible to study 4 A Levels subject to GCSE results and interview.

You are advised to carefully read our Gildredge House Sixth Form Prospectus 2017 (PDF) before applying. If you have any questions about our courses or need further advice, please email or telephone us (01323 400650) and we will be pleased to answer any queries you have.

Step Two

Once you are ready, you will need to apply for a place online using the UCAS Progress online application system. The application form asks for a personal statement in which you should explain why you wish to apply for your chosen A Levels and how you feel you could make a contribution to the Sixth Form at Gildredge House. A reference will also automatically be requested from your current school.

Admissions Policy

Students who are successful in being offered places at Gildredge House are informed that their offer is subject to achievement of the minimum entry requirements for their programme of study as a whole and for the individual course elements.
