Welcome Message

This is a hugely exciting time at Gildredge House as we embark on another crucial phase in our development. This year we welcome a second cohort of Year 12 students into our Sixth Form, as well as new entrants into Reception and Year 7.

Our school is now well over half its eventual size, with ten year groups in operation, supported by our outstanding teaching and support teams, which have also been boosted by exciting new additions to our staff.

We were judged Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and we are passionately committed to delivering and maintaining a first-rate educational experience for everyone who comes through our doors.

Gildredge House embodies so many of the things that I hold dear: academic excellence, community participation and leadership opportunities.

Extended school day

Life at Gildredge House is enhanced by a rich extra-curricular life that extends throughout the school day and beyond. What’s more, every one of our students will be valued and nurtured within our caring and supportive environment.

Small class sizes

Key to our success will be the small classes in which traditional high expectations are combined with modern teaching methods, ensuring each student achieves their best possible results.

Outstanding teachers

The teachers are a school's greatest resource and I get huge fulfilment from engaging staff and developing their skills. I love working with an exceptionally talented and committed group of staff at Gildredge House.

A love of learning

I believe in an education system which develops the whole person and inspires a love of lifelong learning. What I particularly enjoy is seeing a learner - adult or child - on their own particular ‘journey’, sharing in their growth and challenging them to achieve things they never thought possible. This is why I am thrilled to be the first Head of such an aspirational school as Gildredge House.

Aspiration for all

I believe that every child can do amazing things and at Gildredge House it’s our job to help make this potential a reality. Inside and outside of the classroom, life will be exciting and fulfilling. Our many and varied opportunities will offer every child the chance to be inspired and gain confidence in whichever area they discover their interests lie.

An ethos in which every individual is known and valued

I have worked in schools large and small and feel that there is no substitute for an educational environment in which each member of the community is known and valued.

All-through education from 4-18

I wholly believe in the tangible benefits of an age 0-18 structure within one school and the "family" environment which an “all through” school engenders. The “all through” model can work to outstanding effect, particularly with regard to pastoral care, student welfare and the quality of relationships between each member of the school community. Our skills and experience in these areas helping to build Gildredge House into an Outstanding school and are crucial to our unique ethos.

Personal development and leadership opportunities

Our first cohorts of students in these first few years are very special indeed as they are the pioneers of our unique brand of high quality, truly comprehensive education. I look forward to watching their development towards young men and women who exude self-confidence, academic excellence and a strong sense of community spirit and being proud of their many achievements.

Outstanding site

We are very fortunate to have a site on Compton Place Road close to Old Town with views towards the South Downs, a playing field and woodland on our perimeter. The site, which was occupied until 2012 as the Dental Practice Board, offers us extensive former open-plan office space which has been imaginatively transformed into a vibrant learning environment.

We have added a new Sports Hall, a multi-use performance space and a purpose-built extension for our youngest students, together with newly-landscaped gardens and play spaces. All of this complements the imposing original Victorian buildings which a century ago housed Temple Grove Prep School and now accommodates our Sixth Form.

High expectations

Ultimately, I have high expectations for Gildredge House and our staff and students are well aware of our school motto: ‘Aspire’. We are all striving to be the best that we can be and this is what gives Gildredge House a real ‘buzz’. I hope that you will consider visiting our school and experiencing this for yourself.

I look forward to welcoming you soon.
