Throughout Years 1 to 4 we seek to foster a caring and supportive learning environment, where all students are encouraged to actively engage in their learning, both inside and outside the classroom.
Gildredge House has two classes in each Year Group in Years 1 to 4. The children are taught in a purpose built building with its own hall, library and ICT room. It has easy access to the Multi Use Games Area, school field and is developing its own garden. Gildredge House is in the process of developing the Outdoor Learning Environment. Please read our Vision Statement [PDF] to find out more.
The Gildredge House Way
The children and staff have developed The Gildredge House Way and these values are at the core of our everyday lives:
- I smile and say hello
- I listen to learn
- I care for everyone and everything
- I keep healthy and have a positive attitude
- I work hard and challenge myself
Our vision is for all students to be co-operative, confident, ambitious and successful members of our community.
Years 1 to 4 Curriculum
In Years 1 to 4, the children follow both the Cambridge and National Curriculum with an emphasis on English, Mathematics, Science and ICT skills. However, we will continue to offer a creative approach to the curriculum with themes planned for each term.
The children will be taught by specialist teachers for French, Music and Sport and, where appropriate, may work with older students and Secondary teachers on particular topics. Students are taught by their Class Teacher and there is plenty of opportunity for learning through exploration and practical experimentation as the children ease in gently to more formal methods of learning. Our aim is for all students to have sound literacy and numeracy skills and these are taught discretely and then applied through a creative curriculum approach. The Curriculum Maps below give an overview of the curriculum in each of the four Year Groups.

Parents are warmly welcomed into the learning environment to support the children in their learning.
Students in Years 3 and 4 have the option to undertake Twilight Activities after school a maximum of two days per week, until 4.00pm. Twilight Activities are optional and are on a first-come first-served basis. There is a small administration charge for each club. These sessions are run by school staff and give an exciting dimension to school life. Please download our Twilight Activities Booklet Years 3 and 4 Autumn Term 2017 [PDF] to view this term’s sessions.
